Master List of Indvidual Coaching Requirments

Need to know when your Background checks is due?  How about the date you need to renew your Safesport? Or are you trying to find out if you need to do a Concussion course this year?

Well it's all here on this spreadsheet! Please be sure to check here before sending that email asking what you need to do this season.

Ps- if you did not coach for Anoka or the Girls Co-Op last season you will not be on this list.  This serves only as a starting point for you and will not be updated regularly throughout the season.  A new list will be posted as the start of each season.

Master List of Coaching Requirements

Coaching Requirements for 2023 - 2024 Season

Note:  Bold titles are links to the sites needed to complete the tasks.

  1. USA Hockey Registration - USA Hockey registration is required annually for Head and Assistant Coaches.  Save your confirmation code as you will need it for the additional requirements.
  2. Anoka Coaches Registration - All potential coaches for the 2023-2024 season must register with Anoka before being allowed on the ice.  If you are a Co-Op coach you must first register with Rogers then Anoka.
  3. Background Screening-USA Hockey -  Background Screening is valid for 2 seasons and you must have your background screening show "passed" before going on the ice.  On average, background screens take between 3-10 business days to complete. Please be mindful of this timeframe before going on the ice.  I recommend checking the box to request a copy of our background screening via email so you know when it is completed.
  4. Safesport Training -  Safesport is required EVERY year, and MUST be completed before going on the ice.  Everyone will receive email notifications from USA Hockey 30 days, 15 days and 1 day prior to expiration to renew their training.  You can renew training 60 days prior to expiration; if you try to access earlier than the 60 days a course will not be present for you to take.

It is your responsibility to ensure this gets renewed if it expires in the middle of the season.  USA Hockey is implementing an automatic redline to any roster if your Safesport expires during the season.

There are no completion certificates issued from Safesport.  Once a course is completed it no longer shows on the USA Hockey e-learning site because they do not host the videos, they only provide a gateway to take them from SafeSport.

  5. Age Specific Modules -  You must complete an Age Specific Module for EACH age group you will be coaching.  The module(s) must be completed prior participating in any hockey activities. Modules are "one and done," you do not retake age mods.  Coaches can check the status of their completed modules at: CEP #  Look Up
  6. Concussion Training: Per Minnesota Hockey, all head and assistant coaches are required to complete concussion training every two seasons.  You can satisfy this training requirement one of three ways:
    • The Heads Up course provided by the CDC: Heads Up Training
    • If you completed an Age Specific Module in the prior or current season, you received credit for a concussion course in that program.
    • Training received from other sports will satisfy the training requirement as long as it was completed within the last 2 years, and you can provide a copy of your course completion to the Anoka Registrar at anoka.hockeyreg@gmail.com.
    • All coaches must sign a concussion verification form and turn it in to the Registrar.  It can be electronically signed but it cannot be your signature in a handwriting/script font.  You may scan and email the form to anoka.hockeyreg@gmail.com
  7. Coaching Education Program (CEP) - CEP levels 1-3 all expire after 1 year. All coaches whose CEP is set to expire this year must “level up” by attending the next level course either in-person or online by 12/31/2023. Courses can be taken online in any state so be sure not to limit your search results just to MN.  EXCEPTION: Coaches of Mite/8U may remain at Level 1 (or their current level) even if it has expired.
  • Level 4 coaching certifications are valid for three (3) seasons, and Level 5 coaching certifications are valid for four (4) seasons. Before the expiration of a level 4 or 5, coaches must accumulate 5 credit hours of continuing education by attending USA Hockey continuing education offerings.
  • Review your current CEP level with the CEP # Look UpRegister for an available clinic at  Coaching Clinics - USA Hockey.

IMPORTANT - If you do not complete the required CEP level before December 31st  you will be removed from your roster and will no longer be eligible to coach for the remainder of the season.

NON-ROSTERED PLAYERS ON ICE

Absolutely NO non-rostered players are allowed on the ice or bench (this includes younger/older siblings), for any reason, unless that player is a STUDENT COACH who is approved and listed on the team's roster.

This is a direct mandate by MN/USA Hockey and a major liability concern.  Non-rostered players are not covered while on the ice/bench under the USA Hockey liability insurance.  This policy must be strictly followed by AAHA and it's coaches.

Student Coaches

Please click on the link below for the USA Hockey Student Coaches rules. Student coaches must be ages 13-17.

Scrimmage/event Notification

If you schedule an event (team activity or team bonding, etc.) or an 'away' scrimmage for your team, you must notify the Ice Scheduler immediately.

Please contact the ice scheduler if you would like to request 'home' ice to host a 'home' scrimmage.  When completing the information in the form, enter the date of your 'top choice' for the scrimmage to take place.  Within the 'notes' section, identify any additional dates that would work for the two teams to get together.  The ice scheduler will contact you with scheduling information regarding the request.

Using this LINK will allow your important information to be recorded to help prevent a practice (or game) being scheduled at the same time as an away event or scrimmage and to begin the process to secure ice for a home scrimmage
